“Kites”
Edition of 3
This artist book draws from the tradition of Chinese kites and the iconography of the Dunhuang Buddhist Grottoes. Each kite design is printed using mokuhanga (Japanese water-based woodcut) on Xuan paper, combining historical imagery with delicate materiality.
Laser-cut Bristol board structures are placed between pages, referencing the bamboo frameworks of traditional kites. These sculptural forms add dimensionality and echo the balance between lightness and tension. The laser-cut book cloth cover binds the work as both a printed object and a kinetic structure.
The book reflects on flight as both a physical and spiritual metaphor—rooted in tradition, yet open to reinterpretation.
